The practical differences
A reproduction is not an original and is not equivalent to one. It can still be the right purchase — just know what you're buying.

How to recognize an authentic example
- Herman Miller or Vitra label or medallion under the seat and ottoman
- Three separate plywood shells joined by rubber shock mounts and aluminum spines
- Cast aluminum five-star swivel base with a fixed tilt
- Vintage examples often in Brazilian rosewood veneer
What reproductions usually change
Reproductions commonly use fewer plywood plies, thicker or simplified shells, different armrest geometry and non-matching base castings. Many are sold as 'Eames style' or 'mid-century lounge chair'.
